The test was conducted at The Alpine Clinic, PLLC in Franconia NH. The intention of the test was to determine if participants seated against the Yogawrap Spine Support had muscle activation, as opposed to sitting without it as a support.
An analysis was conducted using the Yogawrap Spine Support, 19 participants of varied ages, physical shapes and genders.
Orthopedic Surgeons, Dr. Andrew Chen, MD, MS and Dr. Daniel O’Niel, MD, Ed.D, FAAOS conducted the testing by applying 6 bio-feedback points via an Electromyography (EMG). With 6 points attached to the front and 6 on the back of each participant.
An electromyography detects the electrical potential generated by muscle cells when these cells are electrically or neurologically activated. The signals can be analyzed to detect activation levels or to analyze the biomechanics of human movement.
The test revealed that the core muscles had no activity when they sat in a chair without the Yogawrap Spine Support attached. However, when they moved to the chair with the Yogawrap Spine Support, the core muscles fired.
This occurred with each participant, regardless of physical conditions. However, the test did show that men fired more in the front than the back and the women participants showed more activity in the back than the front.
It was concluded that because the Yogawrap Spine Support positions the skeleton with added length, the autonomic nervous system engages the core muscles. This is an involuntary function that the body does to provide support to the upper torso.
The importance of the added strengthening of these muscles, with length is valuable to maintain an upright stance, space for proper functioning of digestion and respiratory systems and protection of the skeleton, particularly the lumbar vertebrae.
“As a Chiropractor, I have great interest in the function and movement of the spinal and nervous system. I was introduced to Spinal Support recently and found it to be of significant value. The reason is this: It provides stability to the spine and helps to create better posture awareness. It can be used everywhere you are seated for a period of time. The design is important and yogawrap has kept that in mind with creating anatomical support. This product is a good idea!”
“I was searching for some type of support to help my patients survive long commutes that would create a better ergonomic environment and better posture. I found yogawrap on the internet and ordered it right away for myself and my staff to try out. We immediately noticed a positive difference and have since recommended it to my patients.”
